Friday Five: Restaurant Checklist

I’ve mentioned before on this blog that I can be pretty anal when it comes to list-making. To-do lists, reading lists, shopping lists, etc. But one of my favorite lists to keep is my restaurant checklist. With so many places to try in New York, the food scene can be a bit overwhelming, so I use this list to keep track of all the places I read about on blogs, in magazines, recommendations from friends, so that when I’m racking my brain for a new place to try, I’ve got my trusty list to pick from. Here are just a few places at the top of my list that I’m hoping to try once summer and travel plans wind down.

P.S. Be sure to check out my list of NYC restaurant recommendations under the restaurants tab above!

RESTAURANT CHECKLIST

1. Lafayette / Soho / French

After having great dining experiences at Andrew Carmellini’s The Dutch and Locanda Verde this past New Year’s Eve , I’ve been anxious to try his latest restaurant, Lafayette. I’m also a sucker for some good French pastry…

2. El Toro Blanco / West Village / Mexican

I’ve enjoyed a few visits to Lure Fishbar (they have a great happy hour deal that’s definitely worth checking out), and I’ve heard equally good things about El Toro Blanco – both are owned by Chef Josh Capon. And we all know how I feel about margaritas, so this is a no brainer!

3. Montmartre / Chelsea / French

This place is so close to my apartment, I could sleepwalk there. It’s also part of the same restaurant group that owns Fedora, Joseph Leonard, and Jeffrey’s Grocery, which I love, so I’m sure this will be no exception. The back garden is also supposed to be quite lovely.

4. Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria / Noho/ Italian

You really can’t go wrong with Italian. This place is both a restaurant and an Italian marketplace.  Gorge yourself on simple, authentic Italian, then bring home some gourmet cheese and gelato for later – now that’s my kinda place!

5. Seersucker / Carroll Gardens / Southern

Seersucker has been on my list for a while, but after Ina recently visited it on her show, it obviously jumped to the top of my list. Cornbread, biscuits, and Ina? Sign me up!
